A safari from the sky, offered to our guests as an optional extra.
Baskets come in different sizes, holding up to 16 passengers, and every place has a clear view over the side. It is an adventure flight: a free float above the animals, the tree canopies and the endless shapes of the land below.
Before first light
A balloon representative collects you from your camp or lodge before dawn, at a time that depends on where you are staying, and drives you to the launch site. The drive can take up to an hour, so watch for nocturnal animals heading home from the night: aardvark, lion, leopard, porcupine and bushbaby.
In the air
The flight usually lasts about an hour, depending on the wind. It begins with a safety briefing from the pilot, just as the African sun rises in the east above the horizon.
After a safe landing, you celebrate with a champagne toast.
After the landing
The balloon crew drives you to a bush breakfast under an umbrella acacia. Remember to give your three full names for your flight certificate, which your pilot presents at the end. By mid-morning you are back with your safari guide, carrying on with the day’s plans and all your memories from the air.
