Lion’s Paw Camp
The property
A misty forest camp on the eastern crater rim inside the park gates, so you’re the first vehicle down into the caldera at dawn.
Tucked into a red-thorn acacia forest on the jagged eastern rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, wrapped in swirling morning mist. Being inside the park gates is the whole advantage: you make the first descent at dawn into the ten-mile caldera and its unmatched density of wildlife, before the day’s vehicles arrive. For the safari purist, hard to beat.
I
Where it sits
On the crest of Leala Hill at 7,500 feet on the eastern crater rim, above Lake Magadi. The eastern descent road is a 10-minute drive and faster than the western routes, so you are on the crater floor for the morning hunt while other lodges are still at the gates.

II
The rooms
Fifteen safari suites and two two-bedroom family suites, luxury cabins under canvas raised on stilts to tread lightly on the red-thorn acacia forest, with four-poster beds in king or twin and a writing desk.
