Four Seasons Lodge
The property
Five-star polish in the heart of the plains: an infinity pool over an elephant waterhole, air-conditioned suites, a Thai spa.
Set into the Pombofu Kopjes in the Central Serengeti, the stone lodge is a study in local craft: pale Mugumu stone, thatch woven from a million traditional chelewa brooms, and floor-to-ceiling glass onto the plains. The infinity pool looks straight onto a spring-fed waterhole where elephants come to drink. Air conditioning and a Thai wellness sanctuary make it the most hotel-like address on the Serengeti, sitting about halfway between the central and northern reaches.

Where it sits
Roughly halfway between the central and northern Serengeti; turn west off the main road and three miles through secluded woodland reveals the lodge, built discreetly around the area’s ancient granite boulders.

II
The rooms
Seventy-two rooms and villas in two arc-shaped wings, savannah-toned and hung with African art; guest rooms have handcrafted king four-posters, and the villas add private plunge pools.
